Dimension Icon Basics and PeakForce QNM™

During this modular 2-day course you can improve your skillset on the Bruker Dimension Icon system. If you are new to the system or need a refresher, you can choose to participate only in one or both days, depending on your personal requirements.

The course covers basic software usage, probe selection, probe installation, laser alignment, standard experiments in contact, tapping and ScanAsyst mode on the first day. A brief look into the analysis functions is also scheduled for day one. On the second day there will be an introduction to force measurements using PFQNM. The course will be available in multiple locations: Coventry, UK, and Karlsruhe, Germany. The language will be English.

Day 1:

  • Introduction to AFM
  • Dimension Icon Measurement set up
  • Nanoscope software
  • Contact, Tapping and ScanAsyst mode (pros and cons), standard settings, parameter explanation
  • Basic Analysis functions

Day 2:

  • PFQNM theory
  • QNM on test sample using absolute method
  • QNM on test sample using relative method
  • High accuracy QNM using pre calibrated, controlled tip radius probes

 

Cost: Standard fee is €500 per day. Free seats available to some service contract customers.*

Conditions: Daily lunch included. Application dead line closes 2 weeks (10 working days) before the training is scheduled to begin. The maximum number of participants is limited. If the class fills we will aim to schedule another training event in the future. If fewer than 3 people register, the course will be cancelled.

AFM: MultiMode

During this modular 2-day course you can improve your skillset on the Bruker Multimode AFM system. If you are new to the system or need a refresher, you can choose to stay the full three days or participate only in one or two days, depending on your personal requirements.

The course covers basic software usage, probe selection, probe installation, laser alignment, standard experiments in contact, tapping and ScanAsyst mode on the first day. A brief look into the analysis functions is also scheduled for day one. On the second day advanced options of the Multimode AFM are covered. We will cover calibrating the AFM, optimizing scan conditions to minimize sample and tip degradation and work in liquids. The course will be held in Coventry, UK. The language will be English.

  • Contact, Tapping and ScanAsyst mode (pros and cons), standard settings, parameter explanation

AFM: Dimension Icon Electrochemistry Measurements

During this 2 day course we will cover electrochemical AFM (EC-AFM) where electrochemical processes can be studied with nm resolution by AFM. This training will be performed on the Dimension Icon AFM.

The course will cover; background on electrochemistry in combination with AFM, hardware setup, putting together the electrochemistry cell, troubleshooting common problems, demonstration of EC-AFM (where AFM is used to look at a surface before, during or after an electrochemical process). We will also cover scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) where the probe tip itself can additionally be used as a working electrode allowing for new possibilities in AFM studies of electrochemical processes.

  • The electrochemical cell
  • Troubleshooting common problems with the EC setup
  • EC-AFM demonstration

Day 2: SECM

PeakForce TUNA™  - Conductive AFM Measurements Course

During this online training you can improve your skillset and understanding of Bruker's PeakForce TUNA (PFTUNA) mode for conductive AFM measurements. This training will focus on using the Dimension Icon AFM for demonstrations, but the principals and software operation are the same as for electrical measurements using Bruker's MultiMode AFM and similar for Resolve, Edge and Innova AFMs.

The demonstrations will cover conductive AFM with PFTUNA, including:

  • Measurement setup
  • Sample + probe considerations
  • TUNA scanning
  • IV curves
  • Point+shoot
  • DCube

There will be an opportunity for Q&A afterwards.

During this online training you can improve your skillset and understanding of Piezo Force Microscopy (PFM) mode and its use for measuring a material's piezo response at the nano metre scale. This training will focus on using the Icon AFM for demonstrations, but PFM is possible on a number of Bruker AFMs.

The demonstrations will cover PFM showing:

  • PFM scanning
  • Voltage ramps
  • Point+shoot

During this online training, you can improve your skillset and understanding of Bruker's KPFM modes for surface potential measurements combined with AFM resolution topography imaging. This training will focus on using the Dimension Icon AFM for demonstrations, but the principals and software operation are the same for electrical measurements using Bruker's Multimode, Resolve, Edge and Innova AFMs.

The demonstrations will cover KPFM topics including:

  • KPFM measurement theory
  • Measurements setup
  • Sample + probe considerations
  • AM-KPFM, FM-KPFM, PFKPFM and HV-KPFM measurements

There will be an opportunity for Q&A afterwards.

AFM: Electrical Measurements

During this 2-day course you can improve your skillset and understanding of common electrical modes used on Bruker AFMs. This training will focus on using the Icon AFM for practical work, but the principals and software operation are the same as for electrical measurements using Brukers Multimode AFM.

The course covers; software usage, probe selection, and sample preparation for electrical measurements, TUNA mode operation for measuring currents in the fA to µA range with the AFM tip during scanning (TUNA mode can also be combined with Brukers PeakForce or Dcube options), Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) and the various version of this mode for measuring work function (KPFM can be combined with PeakForce), Scanning Capacitance Microscopy (SCM) for distinguishing doping type and concentration in semiconductor devices (can be combined with Dcube option).

Day 1: EC-AFM

  • Measurement setup for electrical measurements
  • TUNA
  • PFTUNA
  • TUNA + Dcube
  • KPFM and what it measures
  • AM-KPFM
  • FM-KPFM and PFKPFM
  • HV-KPFM
  • Troubleshooting typical problems during AFM electrical measurements
