过去几十年来,我们对各种生物医学疾病过程中的细胞和分子免疫反应的认识有了长足的进步。自身免疫和促炎疾病过程可能与炎症性肠病等慢性疾病有关。此外,新型癌症免疫疗法可激活患者的免疫系统、触发信号通路并调动靶向免疫系统的活性。细胞因子在这种免疫反应级联和决定反应类型(如 1/2 型)中发挥着关键作用。

目前对这些潜在炎症过程的临床疾病进展进行分期的技术非常有限,主要依赖于对宏观细胞和器官组织损伤的侵入性检测。此外,虽然一些免疫疗法治疗癌症的疗效很好,但仍需要改进技术来尽早验证宿主反应的激活情况,以便为正在进行的治疗策略提供依据。

Nerissa Viola 博士是韦恩州立大学医学院肿瘤学系的终身副教授。她也是卡马诺斯癌症研究所分子成像项目的负责人。她的研究重点是开发用于诊断和治疗的 PET 放射性药物。
