Delivering accurate and reliable antimicrobial susceptibility results in full compliance with latest CLSI VET standards, helping you improve animal outcomes.

Current challenges in veterinary diagnostics

Veterinary medicine around the world is facing an unprecedented challenge with rapidly evolving antimicrobial resistance (AMR) which could translate into loss of production, reduced food quality and decreased revenue for farmers and producers. Moreover, pets´ health and their well-being are becoming more important for owners of companion animals.

In order to improve animal outcomes, veterinary diagnostic laboratories (VDL) are looking for microbiological solutions offering a combination of accuracy, comprehensiveness, flexibility, workflow, and cost efficiency.

MICRONAUT VET System is based on the broth microdilution (BMD) procedure, the reference for AST, and provides species-specific true MIC values for a broad spectrum of veterinary-specific antibiotics. It complies with latest CLSI VET standards (VET08). The MICRONAUT VET System offers a choice of five different panel configurations, to meet the requirement for bacteria isolated from companion animals, livestock animals, swine, horses as well as bovine mastitis. Standardized photometric reading of plates as well as up to date software-based interpretation of AST results are increasing the laboratory efficiency. The long shelf-life (24 months from date of manufacturing) as well as convenient storage at room temperature are simplifying logistics and keeping costs under control.

Procedure

  • Prepare a 0.5 McFarland standard bacterial suspension in sodium chloride solution
  • Transfer an aliquot into cation-adjusted Mueller Hinton broth
  • Inoculate the MICRONAUT VET MIC test plates
  • Incubate for 18-24 hours at 35-37°C
  • Read the results visually or measure photometrically

Shelf life and storage:

  • Shelf life: 24 months from date of production
  • Storage: at room temperature (15-25°C)
