Drug Design & Discovery

Bruker & UNC Symposium

Free Admission & Registration

1st Annual Bruker & UNC Symposium

It is our pleasure to introduce our 1st Annual Bruker-AXS/UNC symposium, taking place at UNC-CH on Saturday, August 5th from 8:30 am – 5 pm.  The theme of this year’s symposium will be Drug Design and Discovery.  Our speakers include Jeff Aubé, Timothy Arthur James Haystead, Matthew Redinbo, and Qiu Wang, covering preclinical trial/experimental phase, particularly in drug discovery and design ideology, enantioselective reactions relating to drug design, and bioassays and drug testing.  With this symposium, we are hoping to stimulate research discussions and enhance UNC X-ray crystallography Core to better serve the community!

In addition to the main event, we also offer X-ray Crystallography Workshop on Friday, August 4th from 12:30-4:30.  There will be two concurrent sections catering different audiences:

  • Small molecule crystallography:
APEX4 Workshop – Twinning treatment, refinement and handling disorder)
  • Macromolecular crystallography:
PROTEUM3 Workshop – Data collection, reduction, and Image conversion)

Each section is capped at 30 participants. The workshop is designed for entry-level users who are interested in learning how to operate Bruker D8 VENTURE instrument, available in both UNC-CH and NCSU.

A free lunch will be provided prior to the workshop session!

The admission and registration are free! We look forward to seeing you at the symposium and workshop!

Bruker AXS is also running a co-crystallization contest using “Chaperone Compounds.”  Developed by Prof. Richert at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at University of Stuttgart, these tetraaryladamantane derivatives act as chaperones that form fast-growing, well-ordered co-crystals with materials that are otherwise hard to crystallize alone. Test kits will be provided for those who are interested in participating the contest.
