The nosepiece allows tilting the objective at an angle. This is especially useful when the structure of interest is not aligned along the axis of the objective lens in the vertical position, as is often the case when imaging live animals. Moreover, mounting a piezo stage onto the nosepiece allows for high-speed volumetric imaging off-axis to capture the dynamics of cellular activity.
The rotating nosepiece module for multiphoton microscopes is available in both manual and motorized configurations. Users can control the motorized nosepiece through software supplemented by an external controller secured close to the microscope. This allows for visual control of the objective’s placement in relation to the sample. The module is also supplied with exchangeable optics to suit experimental needs.
