With increasing worldwide prevalence, fungi are one of the most common causes of hospital acquired infections. Especially, in immunocompromised patients, such as patients undergoing immunotherapy, organ transplant, with autoimmune disorders, or those with HIV/AIDS, there is an increased risk of developing severe and life-threatening fungal infections, with a very high mortality rate. Additionally, there are reports of rising resistance to antifungal drug classes, limiting available treatment options.
Diagnosing fungal infections is difficult due to non-specific signs and symptoms of disease, and conventional diagnostic techniques sub-optimal. Therefore, early and accurate diagnosis using Bruker’s advanced Fungiplex® molecular genetic test systems facilitate effective management and treatment of fungal infections by providing a rapid and reliable detection and identification.
